Asia Argento was raised in Rome by a filmmaker and an actor family. Both professions she pursued herself. Sogni e bisogni, directed by Sergio Citti and starring Asia Argento, at nine was her first film. She played the lead role in Cristina Comencini's Zoo (1988) and appeared in Michele Soavi's 1989 feature film The Church. Next, in 1989 she played Nanni Moretti's (also directed) child in Red Wood Pigeon. Close Friends (1992), written and directed by Michele Placido was the film that launched Asia's acting profession. She was able move from roles of a young girl to mature and complex ones. The film received a great reception at the Cannes International Film Festival. She's made three films along with her father, Trauma, The Stendhal syndrome, and Phantom of the Opera. The Phantom of the Opera is the third time she has collaborated with her father. The others are Trauma as well as The Stendhal Syndrome. Giuseppe Piccioni's Condannato A Nozze showcased Asia's absorbed way of acting. She portrayed Arianna in Carlo Verdone's Perdiamoci di vista, a role so complex that she won the David di Donatello prize for best actress. Patrice Chereau directed her in Queen Margot, where she played a prominent role. In 1995, she collaborated with Michel Piccoli in Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion , which again brought her a David diDonatello and an award called a Grolla d'oro. Asia took up directing as profession in 1994. Her first short film was Prospettive. The film she wrote about her father and then Abel/Asia (1998), a film that won a prize in the Rome Film Festival, were the two films she produced between 1996 and 1998. Asia's debut feature film came in the form of Scarlet Diva (2000) in 1999, where she also was the lead actor and also wrote the screenplay. The film was made available all over the world in May 2000. The film was given a special award by the Williamsburg Film festival in Brooklyn. After directing several music videos, she gave birth to the first of her daughters, Anna Lou. In 2002 Asia appeared on The Red Siren with Jean Marc Barr, and Rob Cohen's Action-Thrille, directed by Vin Diesel. Asia is also the writer of a number of short stories, which have appeared in numerous high-end magazines.
